How to Update MetaStock Data Manualy

Hope you have a Metastock software up and running. now lets see how we can update the data daily so we can do technical analysis for free

to start with download the latest file which i have prepared (or you can create your own using DFN pro)
our approach will be, use my file as a base and you will continue to update it daily
you can find the base file (already prepared metastock file)

at the time of writing this post, i have updated the data from 2009 - June 13, 2011
you can grab it from
http://www.mediafire.com/?l3m3r8jg225ajjt

also i might post it on this blog when ever i update it, but strongly i suggest. get the latest file and get your own mechanism to update (refer below) so you dont have to depend on anyone

Download the data, Unzip it, Open it in Metastock, if it works proceed with steps below

How to Update it with Daily Prices

Step1.
You can find the daily prices from the CSE site, in CSV format

The file will be on the following format
Company Name, Symbol, Share Volume, Trade Volume, Previous Close (Rs.), Open (Rs.) High (Rs.), Low (Rs.), ** Last Traded Price (Rs.) ,Change (Rs.) ,Change (%)

We only need Symbol, Trade Volume, Open, High, Low, Close (last traded) - High lighted in red

Step2
Prepare an Excel sheet (in CSV format) with the following order and with the following headers

All you can do is have a excel sheet (Saved as CSV) with the above headers and copy paste the daily data in to it,

Remember
- D (always as its daily data)
-YYYYMMDD (Eg June 13-2011 will be 20110613)

Save the file somewhere and Open the Downloader (which will be automatically installed with Metastock)

On the downloader Tools - > Convert

Click ok, bingo, you got the data

All you have to do is daily , or when ever you find time, update the CSV file with CSE data and follow the above stops on downloader (it will remember the paths) and Click OK

This is how i update it simply

There can be ppl who try with complicated macros / sql scripts but my Principe is you don't need bombs/guns to kill a fly
